Iraca Bags are produced in Colombia, in a small village close to Barranquilla. Women weave these bags with dry banana leaves thread. First, they dry banana leaves and they tie them. When the thread is ready, they construct the framework with wire. Then they enroll the banana leaves thread around the wire to form the bag.
This technique is very precise and requires a lot of patience. Thanks to their art craftswomen are able to send their children to university.
